The Inauguration

I am guessing the first post is where you expect someone to write something witty and humorous. I understand that, it is always what I expect from a new blog. Unfortunately today I am not feeling either of those things, so how about I give you informational. Then when I get the humor and the wit going, you will know who the characters are and the roles they play.

I will begin with me, Amber. I am the mommy who needs another beer as my title suggests. I am 33. I am a very smart (mouthed) college graduate and I currently run the office for a small construction company. I have had numorous experiences of fun and adventure, yet have never left the country or robbed a bank. So although my friends come to me for advice, I am not going to give them tons of worldly information. I am married, to Scottie, it will be one year on the 30th of this month. I have an 11 year old step daughter, Jessica. I also have a 3 year old daughter, Alexis, and my sweet boy, Nathan is 2. You will probably learn more about me through my descriptions of my family. Please do not think for a second that they are anything other than wonderful, despite any bitching I may do.

Scottie has been a friend for nearly 16 years. I knew him before he was ever married to Jessica's mother. We have always been in touch and even if we didn't see each other for 6 months, we always picked right back up as if not more than a day had passed. Although we had never tried to be involved romantically, a little over 4 years ago things just fell into place for us and we decided to date. Since I am easy, the sex came pretty quick, and depite the greatest attempts at birth control, Alexis was conceived. Fast forward about a year, and he proposed to me at a family reunion (my dad's side). Low and behold despite the acts of breast feeding and taking birth control, once again we concieved-Nathan, sometime before the proposal, yet we were unaware. A year and a half later, the wedding occured. Our children were in the wedding. It was at my parent's house at the end of June. Needless to say it was insanely hot. The party afterwards was awesome. There was an open bar and 200 drunk people who we refer to as our friends and family. We had a wonderful time and almost a year later people are still telling us it was the best wedding they had ever been to. I must admit it was a little different. A close friend agreed to get ordained online in order to preform our nuptuials. He also happens to do a little stand up comedy, so people were laughing and having a great time during the entire ceremony, despite the heat. Scottie is an avid sportsman, and enjoys hunting and fishing on a regular basis. He is the epitome of southern redneck with a spash of gentleman thrown in. He always remember to say yes ma'am and no ma'am, and he holds doors for everyone. He is actually a pretty good husband most of the time.

Jessica, my step daughter, is a typical 11 year old going on 25. Despite our greatest efforts she is becoming a teenager. In the beginning my relationship with her was difficult because she chose to test my authority quite a bit. She still does every now and again, but I have informed her that I will not tolerate this, and all it takes is a little reminder that I am the adult, and in no way am I trying to be mean to her or hurt her, and her father and mother both agree that I have authority to reprimand and discipline her. She is however learning how to play her parents against each other, and I am constantly reminding her father that even though she is a daddy's girl, she is also quite a manipulation expert and he needs to take a moment to notice this. She is a good big sister and loves to play with Nathan and Alexis. She kind of prefers Alexis because she is her only sister. She has a total of 4 brothers, so she enjoys being around a girl, even if she is only 3. We had a lot of problems with Jessica's school work when Scottie and I got together, but 2 years of summer school and a lot of encouragement has turned her into an honor roll student, and we are very proud. I don't want to write too much about her, because she is not "mine" officially (although I did exchange some vows with her at the wedding), and I would hate for her mother to get very mad if she found this blog.

Alexis is so much older than her 3 years should allow. She speaks in clear concise sentences, and has for 2 years now. She remembers everything you tell her and is also very well behaved. My pregnancy with her was rough, and she had colic for 4 months, so I guess she is making up for that now by being "the good one". She is funny and her humor amazes me daily. There is so much I could say about her, but I don't want you to think I am bragging (but I am). She is very shy, but her long curly hair always attracts attention. She spends most outings ducking behind me so that no one can see her.

Nathan is the wild child. He is "all boy" as they say. He wears me out every day. He also never fails to tell me I am pretty, and that is awesome. He is outgoing and friendly, and loves to ask "why?" 4,597 times a day. He has long eyelashes and pouty lips, and everyone is convinced he should be a model. I couldn't subject him to that right now, but if he chose that as he is older, I would support him. For now, I will just spend my days telling him no and sending him to time out.

That sums up my family a bit. Check back soon for more insightful posts from me.
