I Had An Affair After Work- Or How I Got Screwed At The Pumps

Yesterday morning, I was running late for work, so when my idiot light game on indicating that my car needed gas, I decided I would just fill up on the way home. Little did I know what a horrific choice this was.

I left work and decided to avoid the interstate. I passed the Sam's Club in order to fill up at WalMart. WalMart did not have gas pumps. I turned around to go back to Sam's and they had no gas. I continued on, all the while watching my fuel indicator tell me I had fewer and fewer miles left to go (3 to be exact).

I finally made it to a Mapco, where I waited in line for 20 minutes, in order to spend $3.99/gallon for regular gas. They only had regular so many people were stuck waiting in line only to continue on because their vehicles required a much higher octane. Then I proceeded to drive home in traffic that slowed at every gas station, looking for signs of gas. There was none to be found. So I will be staying home all weekend, and trying not to use too much gas, because I need that gas to last me the rest of next week when local stations are reporting they will have more of the liquid gold available.

I have waiting in line for gas! When Hurricane Ike came through, my husband made sure all of our vehicles had a full tank.

It took a couple of days before many stations had gas at all, and several days after that before there weren't long lines. But now, everything is mostly back to normal! (At least in my world!) Yay!

And there's no place here that charges $3.99!

What's going on where you live?!?

Patience: In the town where I work gas is 3.99, where I actually live it is more like 3.75, but I was on E, and forced to pay those crazy prices. Here in Middle Tennessee the gas crisis is like snow- if it might snow, everyone rushes out to buy 4 gallons of milk and 6 loaves of bread, if there is a hurricane hitting the gulf, everyone rushes out to fill up their tanks, and any additional containers that will hold liquid.

I left at 6:30am Friday to find NO gas. Not a drop to be found. At lunch I went out again, and happened upon a place that had just gotten a shipment. I only had to wait behind two cars. I was thrilled.

It was $4.49 per gallon.

I spent over $60 to fill my little tank!

What a mess!

It is a mess. I usually spend 60 to fill up but lately it is much more. The joys of a minivan!
